I don't think that the people writing this idiocy thought it through. Abortion is something that a lot of people are not cool with for religious reasons. Saying they will not only be forced to send money to the insurance companies, even if they don't want that kind of insurance, is bad enough - where does the government require people pay to a company in the constitution? However making people pay for abortions if they don't believe in them is sick. I have a feeling quite a few people will do a Thoreau and not pay in for that belief, and the more that don't the bigger the problem they will have in DC. Unless it is a way to weed out the hard Anti-Abortion lobby via the excuse of non payment to jail them. Either way it is screwed up, and the bribes and back door deals are disgusting. Then again a lot of the same writers of this bill screwed up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and looted the accounts dry, and they were rewarded with control of the Senate, Congress and the White House by the Taxpayers last November. Well, in a Democracy one gets the government that the people vote for. However I can't see a lot of people liking this. Going thi deep in debt in a recession is insane, and going this deep into peoples' lives is sick and unconstitutional.

Comment on Joel McNally: gun grabbing moron

"the military doesn't carry them and neither do the police. So I am perfectly comfortable with that."

Actually, the military and police regularly carry shotguns with barrels shorter than 18" which is the minimum required barrel length for "civilians", i.e., citizens. The USSC Miller case involving the National Firearms Act of 1934 only held that the federal government could tax the transfer of short-barreled shotguns and machineguns, not that they could prohibit them outright. Reagan's 1986 foolish acquiesence to the appeasers at the NRA only prevented the public sale of newly manufactured machineguns, not the taxable transfer of those already in circulation. The license to obtain a short-barreled shotgun is a recognition that the required transfer tax has been paid and involved an ATF background check, the payment of a $5 "other weapon" tax (may have increased), and is usually subject to vague objections from local police (unconstitutional). So you should not be "comfortable".

Comment on GIVE ME YOUR GUNS!!!

Liz I'm very suprised at your insightfulnes and genuine reporting, I am a fed up liberatarian, yet you somehow calm my anger with your forth right reporting, can we get these other news agencies to do the same? that would be nice for a change. Not to mention the fact it's proven itself utterly incapable of handling guerrilla warfare, which is what they'd face here as well. They can barely hold on to Iraq and are about to learn the hard way why Afghanistan is the "graveyard of empires." Now try to imagine them successfully invading & occupying Alaska.

Had the South waged a guerrilla war in 1861 rather than field stand-up armies, they'd have prevailed. It would likely have taken 10-15 years, but in the end they would have won.

At any rate, the military would fracture along racial lines early in the breakup, and the black units -- poorly trained, undisciplined, and led by incompetent affirmative-action officers -- would quickly be obliterated.

Comment on You all don't know what we had on McCain

Too late for this, but, what happens next?

Comment on GIVE ME YOUR GUNS!!!

As a frequent visitor (and snowbirder) to Mexico, I don't a civil war coming between the Cartel and the citizens.

There is already a war between the Cartel and the gov't but it doesn't involved the ordinary citizen.

Of course, we all know the proper solution here ... legalize the drugs!
